Polestar Pilates Practitioner

My training philosophy is “Practice makes perfect!”, no matter how hard something seems with practice you’ll find a way!

I do pilates because it’s my peaceful space!

My inspirations are all the world’s women, in every role they play and everything they do.

Interesting fact: I can sing :)

I want to learn: continue my Pilates journey to make every class I give a beautiful experience!

Favorite activity outside of work: Explore around with my kids!

Family: I’m a mother of 3 great-kids, i live with my husband and kids in Fremont. Although my kids sure keep me busy, they taught me to always look at things from every angle. They showed me that taking care of myself makes me a better person to be around!

Educated: I studied Economics and Finance at the University of Jordan, worked in the financial sector for 3 years! Life took an interesting turn and I found myself studying Polestar Pilates!

Treatment Philosophy: The process of creating an individualized plan to reach goals then integrating the exercises, self-treatment and behaviors into our day can be complicated and overwhelming. I know, I have been there myself…many, many times. I enjoy simplifying that process for clients and tracking their progress with objective and evidence-based measures so we can both rejoice when goals are reached! I enjoy finding any missing links in the postural system and supporting people as they re-discover their full potential. It is always fascinating to explore and identify our own way to bring awareness, centering and breath into everyday activities while facilitating more easeful and effective movement.   Specialties: I utilize manual therapy techniques and Mulligan manual mobilization with movement to correct a segmental or local mechanical dysfunction. Then I re-educate the body to control its new range of movement and to correct faulty movement patterns with Pilates-based exercises.  Skills are used to restore stability to a hypermobile area and to induce mobility to a hypomobile area. My knowledge of the fascial planes and neural tension signs help to focus the intervention to the most relevant structure.   Favorite Quote: “The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” - Thomas Alva Edison   My favorite charities are:  Sierra Club Bay area youth center (BAYC) Surfrider Foundation East Bay Zoological Foundation   Interesting fact: I developed a dance-wellness program at Mills College for the graduate program in dance and acted as their PT for 10 years.   Favorite activity outside of work: Playing with my teen daughter and husband.  Surfing.  Gardening.  Cooking.   Pets: Luna the golden retriever who thinks she is a cat and two cats who think they are dogs Sparkle (the lemur) and Riley (the Maine Coon).   Education I graduated from University of California at Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science /Exercise Physiology in 1999.  I then graduated in 2002 from Regis University School for Health Care Professions in Denver with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy.  I went on to complete a Doctorate in Physical Therapy with emphasis on Orthopedic Manual Therapy with Tim Flynn, PT in 2003.  My Pilates education has been through Balanced Body University with Elizabeth Larkam and Tom McCook. I have also taken advanced coursework through Polestar Pilates.

Apprentice teachers are currently enrolled in the Polestar Pilates Comprehensive Training Program and as part of their educational curriculum, they need to complete a certain number of teaching hours as they prepare for their exam.

Because apprentice teachers are still in the midst of their training, they may be a little slower in setting up the apparatus or still be finding their words and tacticle cues that best work for them. They’ll appreciate your patience, understanding, and feedback.

We will ask that you sign a special waiver the first time you work with an apprentice teacher. If you do not feel comfortable working with an apprentice teacher because of complexities of your own body/case, personality conflicts, or if you are unsure that an exercise or position that is recommended is appropriate for you, do not hesitate to stop and voice any concerns to the student and/or to Ada Wells, the studio owner so we can make sure everyone is safe and has a positive experience.

Note that apprentice teachers are not employees of ProBalance but that they are using the studio space and our equipment to completion of their required hours and preparation for the Polestar Pilates Exam and the Exam to become a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT).

The discounted fees you pay to work with an apprentice teacher covers their studio usage fees and enables them to get their required hours and practice.

Thank you.

I do Pilates because: It makes me feel fantastic!

My inspirations are: People who find new movement within their own bodies where they thought it wasn’t possible.

Interesting fact: I was a Marine Mammal Trainer for 10 years, working with dolphins, seals, sea lions and walruses. I am also a puzzle addict.

I came to ProBalance for severe postpartum upper back pain, stayed for the Pilates fitness classes, and, eventually, the Polestar Pilates teacher training in 2024. I believe in teaching movements to the body so that you do not need to pause a second to think every time you get out of the car, bend down, climb stairs, etc.

I work in the biotech industry. My work days are filled with back-to-back meetings and sitting long hours in front of the computer. As I went through the Polestar program, I developed this habit of regular morning Pilates practice. It has been such a luxurious way to warm up my body and clear my mind for the hectic day ahead.

I do Pilates because I am addicted to the mind-body connection and gaining control over the newly acquired mobility that my body never knew it had before. The unexpected bonus is that I now need to buy new pants because my legs are at least half an inch longer, and I am running longer and faster than I was ever able to. I want to share this magic called Pilates with as many people as I can ever reach!

My inspirations are the things I dreamed of doing when I was in my 20s but never dared to do. My New Year’s resolution for 2025 is to learn rock climbing with my 4-year-old and see how long I can keep up in terms of progress. We can do monkey bars at a similar level at the moment.

Interesting fact: I have clinically diagnosed food intolerance for broccoli and cauliflower. (Yes, it is real!)

I want to learn: ballet, and be able to do grand jeté one day.

Favorite activity outside of work: Run along the Alameda Shoreline trails with my 4-year-old biking with me.

Pets: FeFe, a.k.a. Athena. She was a street kitten rescued in downtown Jersey City, NJ. We had to compete with two other couples when we adopted her.
